An ambitious and insightful choral album for the Italian band, flagship of the American label MRR. Their seventh work is an album full of polyphonic and contemporary prog-rock MMXX: ifsounds are back!
«MMXX is a very ambitious record, a step forward in our artistic history. We tried to blend our music with the choral music, with its ancient but still exciting vibe. The album is named after a long suite: its composition required an intense previous study of the choral language, and subsequently a very demanding effort to fit the rock arrangements with the harmonies of a polyphonic choir».
ifsounds are proud for the release of MMXX, their seventh album. It’s the brand new chapter of a long story, which began in 1993 with the foundation of the band and with their first album in 2006.
The Italian band is releasing an ambitious and demanding work, with the American label Melodic Revolution Records. Nick Katona’s well known label confirmed the support on the band five years after An Gorta Mór. ifsounds are back with another concept album based on contemporary problems. Global pandemic inspired ifsounds for a work which could recall the coming back of relationships and human touch. They tried to rebuild with music this human touch though choral music: « Global pandemic has turned our lives upside down, questioning all aspects of our existence, even the most trivial ones. Now those days seem so far away in the past, but I think that we lived the most absurd, alienating and dystopian years that our generation has gone through. For this reason we have decided to translate the sensations and the fears of those days into music and words. We can’t forget how this hard time has conditioned our daily actions in such a dramatic way and how our has irreversibly changed. We chose to tell the story of those years through choral music, a musical genre which provides the closest contact between people, that human touch we lost by the pandemic ».

Un album corale, ambizioso e riflessivo per la band fiore all’occhiello dell’americana MRR. Un settimo lavoro di prog-rock polifonico e contemporaneo MMXX: il ritorno degli ifsounds!
«MMXX è un disco molto ambizioso, un passo in avanti nella nostra storia artistica. Abbiamo fatto convivere la nostra musica con quella corale, una musica antica ma emozionante e modernissima nello spirito. La composizione della suite, in particolare, ha richiesto un notevole studio e successivamente un particolare sforzo per incastrare gli arrangiamenti propri del rock con le armonie di un coro polifonico».
Sono orgogliosi gli ifsounds per l’uscita di MMXX, il loro settimo album. Il nuovo tassello di una lunga storia, cominciata nel 1993 con la fondazione e con il primo disco nel 2006, e oggi giunta a un’opera, come sottolinea la band, ambiziosa e impegnativa. La storica etichetta americana Melodic Revolution Records, guidata da Nick Katona, ha confermato il sostegno agli ifsounds, che a cinque anni di distanza dall’apprezzato An Gorta Mór tornano con un lavoro nuovamente concettuale, incentrato sui drammi della contemporaneità. A partire da ciò che resta della pandemia. Il lockdown ha ispirato gli ifsounds nella ricerca di un veicolo che evocasse relazionalità e contatto con il prossimo. Un contatto perso per motivi sanitari e ricostruito in musica anche attraverso la coralità: «La pandemia ha sconvolto le nostre vite, mettendo in discussione tutti gli aspetti delle nostre esistenze, anche i più banali. Oggi sembra tutto passato e in parte sto notando una certa tendenza a rimuovere dalla mente le sensazioni vissute durante quei due anni da incubo, ma credo che quello sia stato il periodo globalmente più assurdo, alienante e distopico attraversato dalla nostra generazione. Per questo motivo abbiamo deciso di mettere in musica e parole le sensazioni e le paure di quei giorni, che hanno condizionato in maniera così drammatica le nostre azioni quotidiane e che hanno cambiato irreversibilmente il nostro mondo e noi stessi. E lo abbiamo fatto attraverso la musica corale, il genere che, per definizione, richiede il contatto più stretto tra le persone che avevamo ormai perso».
